Having an instrument license enables you to be able to fly in all weather conditions. It allows you to maintain control of the aircraft and land without reference to the ground surface. An instrument license makes you a more desirable candidate for many employers. An increasing number of employers now require their pilots to have an instrument rating.
FAA requirements:
applicant must hold at least a private helicopter pilot license and a third class medical license
obtain a minimum of 40 hours of dual flight time
pass the FAA aeronautical knowledge and flight proficiency exam ‘check-ride’
pass the FAA knowledge written exam
